Plot
Life as a House is the story of George
Monroe (Kevin Kline) who finds out he is terminally ill and decides to get reacquainted with his rebel teenage son Sam,(Hayden
Christensen), who has been in the custody of his ex-wife (Kristen Scott Thomas). While doing this, he plans to fulfill his
lifelong dream of tearing down the house his father gave him and building his dream house. With his son's help they
build the house together and Sam cleans himself up and begins to love his father again. Tearing down and rebuilding
his house stands as a metaphor for the change that George undergoes through the process; he comes to terms with his impending
death. Life as a House is humourous, dramatic, emotional, and a truly great movie.

Quotes
Sam: I think there has to
be a door between where you cook and where you crap. Even in the bush - tribal people, you know, they have a place for both.
Probably it's like a law. God! It's probably in the Bible. It's at least a building code violation.
Sam: Why don't you just go
and beg some money off my Dad, so you can move into some place decent, with a real kitchen and a real bathroom. George: I'd rather sell my nuts
to a castrati.
Sam: So what were trying
to do? Trying to get me to like you? George: No, I was trying to
get you to love me. Sam:
Well congratulations, you fucking pulled it off!
